How a website migration taught Zaloni to fish

In business, different types of projects create varied strategic and tactical challenges for developers.

Anyone who has successfully executed a website migration project in the past knows that the gut-wrenching and often unpredictable ups-and-downs are incomparable.

From front-end choices relating to brand communication and purpose, to the back-end technologies needed to support business requirements, a website migration is a diverse mix of content and widgets. If taken on without diligent project planning, management and proper resourcing, it can quickly become a project without purpose or end.

In light of these abundant challenges, Zaloni turned to Demand Spring to undertake its recent website migration project.

According to Zaloni’s Vice President of Marketing, Kelly Schupp, Demand Spring was the perfect choice for the project. “Demand Spring possesses a strong understanding of the technical aspects of a well-crafted, search optimized site, along with modern, sophisticated design sensibility,” said Schupp. “Strength in both areas is a unique combination.”

Demand Spring recently sat down with Schupp and Peich to gain insight into the migration process and their experience.

Now that the project is complete, can you comment on how things went?

Kelly Shupp, VP of Marketing, Zaloni

Schupp: Having previously worked on site migrations, both as a customer and on the delivery team, this was the smoothest that I’ve experienced. The transition to the new platform was virtually seamless.

I could trust Demand Spring’s communication style and timely attention to change requests, tasks and deliverables in their project management tool Mavenlink. This trust was key for the smooth migration.

Peich: Weekly team check-ins also ensured that we stayed on track and on time. The combination of these tools and processes made us confident that all functional leaders of the project knew what was going on as pages were being developed, and that our site would be done on time and within budget.

How would you describe your relationship with the Demand Spring team? Did the relationship evolve or change throughout the execution of the project?

Schupp: We did indeed have a change in project management and design roles over the course of the project. But in both cases, everything went smoothly. Andrea (Schiavone) is a very strong project manager, and having an experienced client/project leader definitely made a difference. It was clear that she was on top of all aspects of the project, even during her transition in.
